CFP Faculty

One of our greatest assets is the knowledge and experience our instructors bring to our CFP Program here at Florida State University. All of our instructors are practicing Certified Financial Planners ® and hold additional licenses and/or degrees that support the specific topic they teach.

Bruce Hagan, CFP®

Bruce Hagan is a graduate of Florida State University with a degree in Communications. Bruce holds the Certified Financial Planner™ designation; FINRA licenses 4, 7, 24, 51, and 66; and is licensed by the State of Florida as a life insurance and variable annuity agent.

Bruce has over 35 years in the securities industry and owns his own business. Along with his work as a Financial Advisor, he teaches Investment Planning for the FSU CFP Program.

Bruce enjoys fitness training, golf, and fishing.

M. Kathryn (Kate) Clark, AIF®, CFP®, CPFA®

Kate Clark is the Managing Partner at Cypress Capital, bringing over 18 years of experience in the financial industry. Since starting her career in 2007, Kate has held key positions at First Franklin Financial, AMB Wealth, and Barnes Capital Group before founding Cypress Capital in 2018. In 2024, Kate was named an InvestmentNews: Rising Star Honoree.

Kate has obtained the Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®), Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor (CPFA®), and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® (CFP®) designations, and holds a Series 7 securities license through LPL Financial, a Series 66 securities license through both Cypress Capital and LPL Financial, as well as insurance licenses for Variable Life, Variable Annuities, Fixed Life, Fixed Annuities, Health, and Disability Insurance.

Kate earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Florida and a Certificate of Financial Planning from Florida State University. She has shared her expertise as a guest lecturer for the Retirement Planning Today Series at Florida State University, part of the Financial Educators Network, in 2008 and 2009.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Kate resides with her husband on their family farm, where they raise cattle and care for their two rescued dachshunds. An avid outdoor enthusiast, she enjoys a variety of activities, including hiking, horseback riding, fishing, and hunting.

Kate is deeply committed to community involvement, having volunteered her time with several organizations. She has served as a Board Member for the Community Foundation of North Florida and The Gadsden Arts Center and Museum. Kate has served on the LPL Financial Ambassador Council, representing the 22,000+ LPL Advisors nationwide. She is also actively involved in the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce and is a proud graduate of Leadership Tallahassee Class 33.

Erin McCarty, CPFA®, CFP®

Erin McCarty is a Partner with Cypress Capital. She began her career in 2015 while pursuing a degree in Finance at Florida State University. Before joining Cypress Capital, Erin gained valuable experience as an Associate at prominent firms, including Stifel Financial, Morgan Stanley, and LPL Financial.

Erin holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance and a Certificate of Financial Planning from Florida State University. She has earned the Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor (CPFA) designation and is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional. Additionally, Erin holds a Series 7 securities license through LPL Financial, a Series 66 securities license through Cypress Capital, as well as insurance licenses for Variable Life, Variable Annuities, Fixed Life, and Fixed Annuities.

Residing in Tallahassee with her husband, Connor, and their two rescue dogs, Erin enjoys spending time outdoors—whether running, soaking up the sun, or enjoying the water. She is also an active member of the Tallahassee community and has been volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Big Bend since 2017, where she is proudly matched with her “little sister,” a relationship she deeply cherishes.

Tom Harrison - CFP Instructor
Tom Harrison, Jr., CFP®, CPA

Tom Harrison received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Bachelor of Science in Finance from Florida State University in 1996. He joined Lanigan & Associates, P.C. in 1997 and has been a Certified Financial Planner™ since 2002. Tom is also a Certified Public Accountant, CPA.

Tom teaches the Income Tax Planning course and has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Thomas University and Southwest Georgia Technical College. He has over 20 years of experience in the field.

Tom plays tennis and is the high school tennis coach at Brookwood School. He also does crossfit and enjoys inshore fishing.

Donna Jordan, CFP®, AIF®, CLU®, RHU®

Donna Jordan is a financial planning practitioner and investment advisor. She holds a Master’s degree in Education and four professional designations: Accredited Investment Fiduciary®; Chartered Life Underwriter®; Registered Health Underwriter®; and Certified Financial Planner™.

Donna has had over 30 years of experience in a broad range of financial services. She has also held several educational positions within her field of expertise and currently teaches both Introduction to Financial Planning and the Capstone course.

Donna enjoys being a spectator for hockey, baseball and football, supporting her local teams. She also enjoys cooking and spending time with family.

Joseph McNair - CFP Instructor
J.R. Saginario, CFP®, AEP®

J.R. Saginario holds an MA in International Affairs from Florida State University, is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER®, and Accredited Estate Planner®. He has more than 25 years of experience in serving the financial needs of families across banking, mortgages, credit, insurance, investments, and holistic wealth strategy. In addition to leading the Estate Planning segment for the FSU Financial Planning program, he’s an adjunct professor at Tallahassee State College.

Away from the office, he serves as a Treasurer for Elder Care Services Inc. (Meals on Wheels); as vice president for the Tallahassee Regional Estate Planning Council of the Community Foundation of North Florida, and is a member of the Economic Club of Florida. He’s also served on the vestry at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Tallahassee, is an active volunteer with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra and supports student musicians as a board member of the Florida State University Music Associates. When not working for a better community, he’s probably hiking in the woods or exploring a Florida river or spring in his kayak.
