Using the Survey Manager

Overview
The Survey Manager allows you to deliver totally anonymous surveys to your students. You will be able to see how many students gave a specific answer, and who has answered, but not connect the answers to the individual students.

  1. Go to the correct course.
  2. Select Control Panel in the course menu on the left.
  3. Under Assessment select Survey Manager.
  4. Select the Add Survey button.
  5. Provide a Name for the survey.
  6. Provide any necessary instructions or descriptions.
  7. Select Submit.
  8. Go into Creation Settings to add images or files and set a variety of display options. When you're done, select Submit.
  9. Select Ok.
  10. Select the correct question type from the Add drop down menu.
  11. Provide the necessary information on the next screen (or screens) for the specific question and select Submit.
  12. Repeat these steps as necessary.
  13. Return to the Control Panel.
  14. Select the Content Area where you wish the survey to be placed.
  15. Select Survey from the drop down menu on the right.
  16. Select Go.
  17. Select the correct survey from the Add Survey menu.
  18. Select Submit.
  19. Select Ok.
  20. Since you've already set up the survey, you are unlikely to need to Modify the Survey, instead, go into Modify the Survey Options.
  21. Decide if you want to Open Survey in New Window. Please be aware that pop-up blockers can prevent students from seeing surveys that open in a new window.
  22. If you want your students to see the survey, the Make the Link Available option must be set to Yes.
  23. You can choose to automatically create an announcement letting your students know about the survey using Add a New Announcement for this Survey.
  24. Choose whether or not to allow Multiple Attempts. Please note that if you do not allow multiple attempts, if a technical error causes a student to get locked out of the survey you may need to clear their attempt for them to complete the survey. You can decide whether students are allowed unlimited attempts or a set number.
  25. Choose whether or not to Force Completion. If this is turned on, the students cannot save their work and return later.
  26. Choose whether or not you want to Set a Timer for the survey. This will display a timer for students. It will not lock students out of the survey when time runs out. It will put a note in Grade Center that they went over time and how far over.
  27. You can set Display After and Display Until dates. Keep in mind that if you have the Make the Link Available option set to No these dates will not override that, they will override if the link is available.
  28. If you wish to create a Password for the survey, you can set it here.
  29. Set Self-assessment Options. If you want to include completion of the survey as part of the final grade, you should make sure the box next to Include this test in Grade Center score calculations is selected.
  30. Choose what kind of Survey Feedback the students see. This can be changed at any time.
  31. Decide whether you want the survey to display All at Once or with the questions One at a Time. If you set One at a Time you can decide whether students can go back to previous questions.
  32. Decide whether you want the questions to appear in a random order.
  33. Select Submit.
  34. Select OK.
