Course Building for Academic Departments

Building Distance-Learning Courses

Building distance-learning courses in the Registrar's Course Schedule Master (CSM) is the same process as building courses for an FSU campus location with the exception of adding a few special codes. Learning these particular codes will ensure that:

  • Students find distance-learning courses efficiently in the course look-up system.
  • Students are charged the correct tuition and fees.
  • Students from the correct locations and in the correct majors can easily self-enroll.
Before you begin
  • Consultation on development
APPS-CTL provides direct funding support to departments and faculty who wish to make their academic programs and courses available to students who are pursuing higher education in an online environment. For consultation on developing an online or hybrid course/degree program, contact CTL.

  • Training and general information
    • For general information on the Course Sschedule Master (CSM), including training available, see FSU Link Academic Space and Scheduling.
    • For details on how to request access to view and update course information in the CSM for most commonly used distance learning locations, and a step-by-step guide for adding courses, see Building Online Courses in CSM (Acrobat icon 852 Kb)

  • Activation of FSUID and authorization
Prior to attending training, you should activate your FSUID and have established official security authorization for viewing or updating class schedule information. If you have not activated your FSUID, click “Activate Your FSUID” on campus.fsu.edu

  • Updating permissions with location codes
Departmental course builders located on the Tallahassee main campus are given default access only to build main campus classes (location code = 00) and do not automatically have access to build sections across multiple location codes. Distance-learning programs offer sections for students with multiple location codes: 00 (FSU Main Campus), 85 (Distance Learning), 88 (Panama City), and 83 (Republic of Panama).
