Social Science - Online Major in Interdisciplinary Social Science (ISS)
Bachelor of Science

This undergraduate degree provides the student an opportunity to gain a broad understanding of the social sciences. Radical changes in nearly all professions require that professionals learn efficiently and adapt quickly to new settings. In this program, you will acquire the skills to:

  • Adjust quickly to changes in your profession
  • Match problem-solving techniques to a variety of settings
  • Learn new material and methods
  • Recognize traditions from which new cultures have emerged

The typical part-time student will be able to complete this degree program in 10 semesters or 4 years. Graduates of this program are now working in these careers:

Admission requirements

Departmental Requirements

    Major courses
    Your major coursework must be chosen from the following departments: Anthropology, Economics, Geography, History, Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology, and Urban and Regional Planning.

    Note:

    • Anthropology, History, and Urban and Regional Planning courses are not currently available online, but you may be able to use credit previously earned in these areas. Consult with your Academic Coordinator regarding your transfer credits.
    • Economics courses offered online require the prerequisite courses ECO 2013 and ECO 2023, which are not available online. Students planning to take Economics courses should complete these prerequisite courses prior to entering FSU.

    Your major coursework must include:
    • Primary concentration (Economics or Sociology) -- (18 credits)
    • Secondary concentration (Economics, Sociology, Political Science, Public Administration or Geography) -- (12 credits)
    • Other departments (within College of Social Sciences) -- (12 credits)
      • Note: Due to limited course offerings, it is now difficult to attain a secondary concentration in Geography. Please consult with your Academic Coordinator, however, to see if credit earned from another institution may be used for the degree.

        Total ISS required hours -- 42 credits

    Note: Up to 9 semester hours of courses that have been taken to meet Liberal Studies or Associate of Arts degree requirements may be used toward satisfying the 42 hours required for the ISS major.

    • Live in Bay County (Location code 88) as a:

      • Non-Florida Resident: $592.26 per credit hour
    • Live outside of Leon, Gadsden, or Wakulla Counties (Location code 85) as a:
      • Florida resident: $154.54 per credit hour
      • Non-Florida resident: $592.26 per credit hour
