Master of Science and Post-Masters Certificate Programs

FSU now offers an online Master of Science in Nursing degree (MSN) for the Nurse Educator tracks. Nurse Practitioners provide primary care to healthy families and families experiencing acute health problems and/or chronic health problems in ambulatory care, sub-acute care, long term care, or acute care settings. Courses in advanced health assessment, disease management, advanced skills, and pharmacology is required. The curriculum has all the components of the nurse practitioner advanced practice role as recommended by the National Organization for Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) and is consistent with that defined by the Florida Board of Nursing requirements and regulated by Florida Statutes for Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNPs). Clinical experiences are arranged in the student's hometown and are structured to meet prerequisites for writing certification examinations as Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).

There is a growing need for Nurse Educators who possess strong clinical skills and who are academically prepared to educate future nurses. They can serve as faculty in schools of nursing, and as educators for healthcare facilities, patients, communities, and entrepreneurs. This nursing education sequence is designed to prepare well-qualified students to become well-rounded nursing educators. The approach is presented in a systematic, orderly fashion and is designed to assure that the educational outcome is directly related to nurse educator preparation for practice. The content of the nurse educator track focuses on the theoretical foundations of nursing education, the teacher-learner process, curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation in both the classroom and clinical areas. Strategies are taught that address not only individual but group learning in a variety of settings. Clinical experiences are designed to meet individual learning needs in those areas in which the student desires to practice. With the classroom and clinical specialty experiences, the graduate from the Nurse Educator track will meet the competencies published by the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) and the National League of Nursing (NLN).
