Your Grades

Since grades are a measure of your performance at the University, you should be aware of their effect on your academic standing, how and when you are granted an incomplete, and whether you are eligible for grade forgiveness. You will also want to know how to get your semester grades as well as a transcript of all grades you've received.

  • Getting your grades
You can learn what grade you received rather quickly once the semester has ended.
    • To learn the exact date that grades will be posted, go to the Registrar's website and select Academic Calendar
    • After the date listed above, click the Secure Apps tab in Blackboard. Then click Grades.
  • If you need to purchase an official grade transcript, visit the FSU Registrar FSU link icon
  • Grade point average and good standing
To be in good standing and to graduate, the University requires undergraduate students to maintain at least a 2.0 ("C") grade point average (GPA) and graduate students to maintain at least a 3.0 ("B") grade point average.
Academic departments often require students to maintain higher grade point averages. For instance, the Computer Science department requires its undergraduates to maintain a 2.5 GPA. Contact your Academic Coordinator for more information about specific GPA requirements for your major.
  • Incomplete grades
There may come a time when you find yourself unable to complete a course by the end of the semester. If you've been doing the work (passing the course) and you are not withdrawing from the University, your instructor may assign a grade of "I" (for "Incomplete"). Such assignment is entirely up to the discretion of the instructor.
If granted, all work must be completed before the end of the next semester in which you are registered. At that time, the instructor submits your final grade to the Registrar's Office. If work is not completed by then, your grade automatically becomes an "IE" (or "Incomplete Expired"), which computes as an "F" in your grade point average calculations.
Students may not register for courses in which incomplete grades have been received. If they do so, the original "I" will automatically be changed to an "F." The "F" grade is not repeatable under the Forgiveness Policy and is so indicated on the student's permanent record.
  • Forgiving a grade
FSU's Forgiveness Policy was discontinued as of Summer 2004. For more information, contact your Academic Coordinator.
