Provides opportunities for students to develop both a practical and theoretical basis to analyze science curricula. The course focuses on the utilization of philosophical and psychological foundations to analyze current curriculum materials available for science classes.

Teaching Science in Diverse Classrooms

This course examines the implications of "science for all," with a particular emphasis on the interactions of students' culture and culture of science. This examination is followed by a description of instructional congruence and its role in helping all students move toward scientific literacy. This course culminates with the identification of practices that allow for cultural congruence and the application of these practices in the design and enactment of an instructionally congruent unit of science teaching.

A comprehensive survey of research methodology used in studying science education is conducted in this course. Students develop skills in interpreting both qualitative and quantitative studies, with particular emphasis placed on qualitative methodologies.
