Blackboard 8 Online Resources

Are you interested in learning more about Blackboard 8? Both Blackboard and the Center for Teaching and Learning have created several online videos, manuals, and reference cards to help you do just that. Here you will find a consolidated listing of the online resources we have to offer. Additional resources will be regularly added as they are created or approved.

New Features of Blackboard 8

The new release of Blackboard offers several new or enhanced features including the Grade Center, peer assessment components, and social bookmarking tools. Explore these resources for a general view of what release 8 has to offer.

Using the Grade Center

The Grade Center, formerly called the Gradebook, is a new grading tool that allows professors to create reports, maintain custom groupings of students, view the history of grade changes, and edit the Grade Center spreadsheet.

  • Blackboard Grade Center (Flash icon): Another promotional item created by Blackboard, this short view provides a glimpse of the new features offered through the Grade Center.
  • Getting Started with the Grade Center (Acrobat icon 428 Kb): This 4-page handout is a great way to begin learning about the Grade Center. It provides an overview of the interface, step-by-step instructions for common tasks, comparisons between the original Gradebook and the new Grade Center, and summaries of the more advanced features available.
  • Exploring the Grade Center: Use this reference for working with grade columns, entering grades, adding comments to and modifying grades, deleting or exempting. See also how to customize the Grade Center, send emails, work with grade history and download Grade Center data.

Using SafeAssign

Instructors are encouraged to use SafeAssign, Blackboard’s anti-plagiarism tool, for all writing assignments to discourage and identify unoriginal material submitted online. See the resources below to learn more about using SafeAssign.

  • SafeAssign Quick Reference Card (Acrobat icon296 Kb): Designed to get up and running fast, this one-page reference sheet has all you need to get started with SafeAssign.
  • FSU SafeAssign User Manual (Acrobat icon 872 Kb): This user manual was developed by CTL and has detailed instructions (including screenshots) on using SafeAssign.
  • FSU SafeAssign Student Manual (Acrobat icon 764 Kb): A user manual specifically for students with descriptive text and screenshots.
