Turnitin (preventing plagiarism)
FSU instructors can use the web-based tool Turnitin.com to deter and detect plagiarism. You can access Turnitin.com from within your Blackboard (Bb) course site and students can submit their papers to your Turnitin.com assignments through your Bb course site. And, after student papers have been reviewed for originality, you (and your students, should you choose the "let students see Originality Reports" option) can view the reports from within Bb.

  • Why Use Turnitin?
    • Deter: Turnitin.com provides resources on developing topics and assignments that encourage and guide students in producing papers that are intellectually honest, original in thought, and clear in expression. This tool helps instructors create a culture of adherence to the University's standards for intellectual honesty.
    • Detect: Turnitin.com also reviews students' papers for matches with Internet materials and with thousands of student papers in its database, and returns an Originality Report to instructors.
  • Workshops featuring Turnitin
Our Faculty Teaching Enhancement Workshops feature hands-on experience on using Turnitin to deter plagiarism.
    Register online.

  • Strategies for classroom success
A PDF document prepared by CTL staff explains how to begin using Turnitin, questions to consider, plagiarism statements for syllabi and assignments, academic honor policy violations, and FSU's evaluation of Turnitin's originality reports.
