SafeAssign replaces Turnitin as FSU’s anti plagiarism tool
In the spring 2009, Academic and Professional Program Services (APPS) conducted a pilot study to test whether SafeAssign, which comes bundled with Blackboard 8, could effectively replace Turnitin as the anti-plagiarism tool for FSU. Preliminary findings of the pilot study showed only minor differences between the two tools. We thank all our participants who took the time to provide their feedback. View the final report. (

In summer 2009, SafeAssign became the standard anti-plagiarism tool at FSU.
Instructors are encouraged to use SafeAssign for all writing assignments and to announce the use of the tool in their syllabi. Additionally, class discussions on plagiarism and ways to prevent it are strongly recommended, especially in courses where writing assignments are a primary means of assessing learning.
