Summer Workshops

APPS: Center for Teaching and Learning is pleased to provide funding support for tenure-track and non-tenure track faculty to design, develop and implement an innovative instructional strategy for an online or face-to face learning environment. This summer's Workshop Titles include: Connecting with Your Students through Technology, Effective Lectures and Discussions, Increasing Student Performance with Team-Based Learning, and Streamlining Your Courses through Technology. Workshops

    Connect With Your Students Through Technology
    This workshop will offer participants a variety of technology tools (e.g., podcasts, wikis, blogs, Blackboard) for enabling learning on demand and creating learning communities among students.  By the end of this workshop, participants will have developed a plan for implementing at least one new technology tool into a course.

    Effective Lectures and Discussion Classes
    This workshop will provide strategies for engaging students in the classroom.  Techniques for stimulating and managing discussions and making lectures interactive will be covered. Upon completion of the workshop, participants will have developed a plan incorporating learning-centered instructional strategies in the classroom.

    Increase Student Performance With Team-Based Learning
    Based on Dr. Larry Michaelson’s techniques, this workshop focuses on a collaborative approach that increases student participation and stimulates discussion. As a product of this workshop participants will create a team-based learning unit of instruction to engage students in active learning and critical thinking.

    Streamline Your Courses Through Technology
    This workshop will help participants organize course materials to make instruction accessible and timely; assignment collection and grading easier; and distribution of materials more efficient.  At the end of this workshop, participants will have redesigned a course site to enhance instructional efficiency and effectiveness.

    • Tues. and Thurs. June 3, 5, 10 and 12

Terms of Appointment
  • Dates: Two weeks between May 20 and June 18, 2008
  • Appointment: 0.375 FTE for one pay period during the workshops for which you are selected.
  • Duties:
    1. Attend every session of the workshop to which you are assigned.
    2. Complete each assignment and submit the required final product (varies by workshop).
    3. Participate in a Fall Semester follow-up survey.
    4. If requested, agree to share instructional strategies and lessons learned through presentations/demonstrations at CTL events or through ctl.fsu.edu.
