Tests and Test-taking

Distance Learning Exams for Other Institutions

student and proctor at computer

Overview

The FSU Center for Assessment and Testing (CAT) is happy to serve students who are taking online courses with other schools and need to take proctored exams for those courses. If you are a student in need of these services and are interested in testing with us, please read the policies and procedures below. (Exception: If your exam is for a University of Florida Correspondence Course, please refer to UF Distance Learning Exams for more information, as these are handled differently.)

Before the Testing Session

Please contact your home institution and make arrangements to have the exam sent to us. Exams may be mailed to:

Testing Administrator
FSU Center for Assessment and Testing
296 Champions Way
University Center C, Ste 1200
Tallahassee, FL 32306

Exams may also be emailed to testing@campus.fsu.edu.

It is recommended that the exam be received by CAT at least 48 hours before the scheduled test date.

You will not need to make an appointment to take your exam. You may simply walk in during our office hours. We begin administering exams at 8:30 AM. You should also keep in mind that we are required to allow the full time limit to test you. This means, for example, if your test has a 2 hour time limit, you will need to be seated no later than 2 hours before we close. You will not be allowed to test if you are late. Please make sure you plan accordingly.

At the Testing Session

When you come in to take your exam, make sure you present the following items:

  • A valid photo ID. Examples include driver license, passport, and student ID.
  • A $15 test administration fee made payable to FSU. We can only accept money order or, if you have an FSU Card, you may use the Smart Chip. We are unable to issue refunds or accept any other forms of payment.
You will not be admitted without both of these items.

While you are testing, you will need to abide by our testing policies. Please read these carefully, as failure to obey these rules will result in dismissal.

Testing Center Guidelines

  1. Students must present either a valid FSU ID card with a clear photo or a government-issued ID with photo and signature.

  2. Students' cell phones must be turned off completely while in the testing room (UCC1100). If a student's cell phone vibrates, makes any alert or sound, or is otherwise found to be on, before or after being seated, the student's exam will be terminated and/or the student will forfeit the chance to test. Students must wait until they exit the testing room prior to turning their cell phone back on.

  3. Students may not bring loose papers (study guides, notes, or blank paper) into the testing room, unless specified in the instructions on their exam. If scratch paper is provided, it must be turned in before leaving.

  4. Calculators are not provided by CAT, and if they are allowed by the professor for the exam, the student must bring his/her own.

  5. Hats, head gear, wraps, etc. may not be worn during exams (except that which is prescribed for religious purposes).

  6. Students are expected to exhibit proper decorum when using CAT facilities. Violations of the following rules may result in the student being expelled from CAT for the remainder of the semester.
    • There is no talking in the testing room, except to proctors.
    • Leaving the testing room with any test content (questions, directions, etc.) or with any student responses is strictly prohibited.
    • Inappropriate behavior towards CAT staff or other students will result in dismissal from CAT.

  7. CAT is not responsible for students' grades. Students are responsible for taking any disputes to the instructor. This includes concerns about test questions/answers, scores, or concerns about being turned away for any reason.

  8. Computers in the testing room may not be used for any purpose other than to take exams. Any student caught attempting to use computers for any other purpose will be asked to leave immediately - regardless if the exam has started or not.
