CLA
The Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA) is a method for assessing how well the university is acheiving its educational goals for its students.
The CLA is not a multiple choice exam. It is a two part assessment in performance and analytical writing. Part One requires completion of a project, such as writing a letter or a short essay or report, on a particular topic. Part Two requires writing an analysis of a particular problem or situation that is provided in the assessment. All data, information, and material needed for the creation of a clear analytic statement of a problem and its solution are provided.
Registration and Payment
Scheduling for the CLA is done by the Undergraduate Studies Department Coordinator. Freshmen, Sophomores, and Seniors are chosen at random. Examinees will not be admitted if they were not chosen for the study.
Seating for the CLA is based upon scheduling. CAT does not handle scheduling. If there is a discrepancy, the examinee will be directed to the Undergraduate Studies Department Coordinator.
There is no payment necessary to take this exam. Participants will be awarded a gift certificate to the FSU Bookstore upon successful completion of the CLA. The examinee can acquire his/her gift certificate from the Undergraduate Studies Department Coordinator.
Testing Center Guidelines
- Students must present a valid FSU ID card with a clear photo to be able to check in. No other form of ID will be accepted (e.g. FL Driver's License, SSN, Blackboard User ID). Any students who leave to retrieve their FSU ID card or obtain a new card must return in time to be seated by the cutoff time.
- Students' cell phones must be turned off completely while in the testing room. If a student's cell phone vibrates, makes any alert or sound, or is otherwise found to be on in the testing room (UCC1100), the student's exam will be terminated and/or the student will forfeit the chance to test. Students must wait until they exit the testing room prior to turning their cell phone back on.
- Students may not bring loose papers (study guides, notes, or blank paper) into the testing room.
- Hats, head gear, wraps, etc. may not be worn during exams (except that which is prescribed for religious purposes).
- Students are expected to exhibit proper decorum when using CAT facilities. Violations of the following rules may result in the student being expelled from CAT for the remainder of the semester.
- There is no talking in the testing room, except to proctors.
- Leaving the testing room with any test content (questions, directions, etc.) or with any student responses is strictly prohibited.
- Inappropriate behavior towards CAT staff or other students will result in dismissal from CAT.
- Computers in the testing room may not be used for any purpose other than to take exams. Any student caught attempting to use computers for any other purpose will be asked to leave immediately - regardless if the exam has started or not.
