Course Evaluations

Online Course Evaluation Response Monitoring Tools

apple on keyboard

Starting Summer 2009, instructors and designated department representatives can monitor the response rates to all online course evaluations during the last two weeks of the semester when the window for submitting online course evaluations is open. In the interest of raising response rates to online course evaluations, response monitoring allows for targeted, personalized reminders before the deadline for submitting online course evaluation responses, as well as the possibility of including the mandatory completion of course evaluations in the course syllabus.

IMPORTANT: These tools do not impact the anonymity of course evaluations since they only indicate whether or not an evaluation was submitted. Student responses are accessible only after grades are posted and are not associated with individuals. Instructors and department representatives can access current response rates via the Order Tracking function from the Main Menu of the online course evaluation management system. There are three monitoring functions:

  1. The current response rate is included as a percentage value in the list of current course evaluations under Order Tracking.

  2. A roster of all enrolled students is accessible by clicking on each course section in the list. The roster will indicate for each student whether a course evaluation has been submitted to date.

  3. An email function allows for easy contacting of students. Per default, only students who have not yet submitted a course evaluation are checked to receive the message. A standard text is included, but instructors or department representatives are encouraged to customize the message for maximum effect.
For questions and concerns please contact Jean-Marc Wise, APPS Assistant Director for the Center for Assessment & Testing, 644-3541 or jwise@fsu.edu.
